…for those who came in late…

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 included, as much as $27 billion over a ten year time span which is supposed to be spent to support the adoption of electronic medical records.

Based on the information from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), under the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH), federal government incentive payments will be available to physicians and hospitals when they adopt electronic medical records and demonstrate their use in ways that can improve quality, safety and the effectiveness of the care that they provide.

Medicaid providers can receive their first year’s incentive payment for adopting, implementing and upgrading certified EHR technology but must demonstrate meaningful use in subsequent years in order to qualify for additional payments.
